Contact support
Email [email protected] with the subject “Decibud support.” Include your macOS version, Decibud version, output-device type, and the steps that led to the issue. The gear menu’s Support diagnostics report can help; review it before sharing. Do not send private audio or passwords.
Get started
- Launch Decibud and click its menu-bar icon. The default panel shortcut is Control–Option–D.
- Start audio discovery and allow macOS audio-capture access when prompted. You can change this in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording (wording varies by macOS version).
- Play audio in another app. Supported sources appear in the panel. Enable control for a source to adjust its volume or mute it.
- Open Mixer from the panel to save scenes and groups; choose Settings in the mixer to customize shortcuts.
An app is missing or cannot be controlled
Play audio first, check capture permission, then retry discovery. Some shared system services or unsupported formats remain monitor-only. Safari control depends on macOS being able to verify the source’s ownership. A source already using its own explicit output may not support per-app routing.
Sound stopped or the wrong output is selected
Check app mute, master mute, and the Mac’s output volume. Use Restore normal audio in Decibud to release its audio control, then confirm your output in macOS Sound settings. Quit Decibud if necessary. Reconnect the intended output before enabling control again. If a route becomes unavailable, normal app audio can return to speakers.
Keyboard shortcuts and media keys
Another app may already own a shortcut. Choose a different shortcut in Open Mixer → Settings. Media-key interception is optional and requires Accessibility permission; ordinary app controls do not require it. Enable only the behavior you want.
History, purchases, and updates
Recent audio history is off by default. If enabled, it stores source details and times, not recordings. A clock icon in the menu bar indicates that discovery and history saving are active. Clear history or disable saving in Mixer → History. Older entries are removed when history refreshes. The Mac App Store handles purchases and app updates. There is no Decibud account, subscription, or trial activation. For Apple billing or refund requests, use Apple’s purchase support.
Requirements
Decibud requires an Apple silicon Mac and macOS 15 or later. Hardware, audio format, and source-app behavior affect which controls are available. Limiting and leveling do not measure sound pressure and are not hearing-protection features.
